LA TZOUMAZ (Canton Valais)
4 Valleys Ski Area

A quiet alternative to the buzz of Verbier but with the same thrilling 412 km ski area can be found in La Tzoumaz.
The name La Tzoumaz derives from the old Valais dialect ‘tzoumer’ and means ‘take a break’. This is certainly the place to do so and therefore ideal to start your search for a property for sale in Valais, Switzerland.
This green and small scaled village is nestled on the north side of Verbier on a plateau at 1500m offering stunning views over the Rhone Valley. The ski chalets and apartments in this area are mostly located in a more secluded, private setting along the piste or near the mountain road towards Verbier. On the Rue Centrale near the main lift the village offers a handful of small hotels, shops and restaurants. La Tzoumaz doesn’t offer a thrilling nightlife but is perfect for those that prefer the company of family and friends coming over, enjoying their beautiful property in the middle of the Swiss Alps.

In the direct vicinity of the resort there is a good range of quiet blue and red runs excellent for beginners and intermediate skiers. For the more advanced skiers the area of Verbier offers a lot of options and is easily accessible. The gondola of La Tzoumaz takes you up to Savoleyres in ca. 8 minutes. From there the Planards- Carrefour takes you around the bowl of Verbier to the Mayentzet lift where you can access all the pistes bringing you up all the way to the Mont Fort. This area is also renowned for its off-piste opportunities. In particular, Tortin, Mont Fort, Valon D’Arby and Creblet are very popular and considered to be one of the best rated excursions in the region.
For the ones that love to sledge, there is the famous toboggan trail that is an absolute must for all visitors in the area. Starting at the summit of the station at 2354m this 10km descent is considered the longest in Western Switzerland.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

In summer, La Tzoumaz offers a wide range of sports and family activities such as summer events, themed walks, scooter trails, tennis court, swimming pool and playgrounds. At the Verbier-La Tzoumaz Bikepark there are 5 separate downhill tracks (with an 700m altitude drop). Hikers can also discover the “bisses” like the bisse of Saxon. These historical irrigation channels have run through Wallis since the middle ages and offer beautiful horizontal walking itineraries. From May until September the “maison de la Forêt” has exhibitions of local wildlife. It’s also the beginning of the trail of the senses where you can discover nature with the ‘5 senses quiz’ using your sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste.
